The village lies four miles south of the A303 trunk road from London to Exeter and 16 miles east of the M5 at Taunton.

A major source of employment, especially with Westland Helicopters, is to be found in Yeovil 7 miles to the east, where there is also a thriving Further Education College. Exeter airport (the home hub of Flybe) is 35 miles away and Bristol airport about 50 miles to the north west.

The village is set in rich farming country and is about 14 miles from the south coast at Bridport and Lyme Regis.

There is an excellent range of local services including a garage, a petrol station, a butcher, two general stores, a post office , a pharmacy (which will collect prescriptions and deliver medicines), a pub, a plant nursery and a pottery.

There is a first school and pre-school, a church, a chapel, and a village hall, tithe barn and social club which are all host to a wide range of activities. The village also boasts a recreation ground which has a new pavilion building and both junior and senior play areas, cricket and football pitches, tennis courts and a bowling green. There is also a separate squash club and court.

Crewkerne with its main line station, Waitrose, sports centre, local shopping and swimming pool 2 miles. Illminster 3 miles, Martock 5 miles.
